The 2007/2008 sportsmen licenses go on sale Monday, August 13th in the Town Clerk’s Office, marking one of our busiest seasons. Following is information pertinent to the fall hunting season.
Good News! There will be no resident license fee increases. Sportsmen licenses remain at $37.00. The big game license has been eliminated and replaced with a small & big game license for $19.00. The super sportsman license is $68.00 and includes small and big game, fishing, bowhunting, muzzleloading and turkey permit.
Proof of qualification. Applicants for all hunting licenses must show proof of qualification. This must be either a previously issued hunting license or a hunter education certificate issued to the applicant. Proof of New York State residency is also required.
Hunter Education Courses. Required for persons who have never received a hunting license. Listing for 2007 Sportsmen Education Classes are available at the Town Clerk’s Office.
Deer Management Permits. Applicants must submit a non-refundable $10.00 application fee when purchasing a big game/small game license at $19.00. This fee is waived for those purchasing a sportsman or super sportsman license. The DEC deer management permit application is applied for at the time of purchasing a license. If you are selected for a DMP, you will receive it immediately from the license issuing outlet. DMP application deadline is October 1st.
Harvest Information Program (HIP) Anyone who hunts migratory game birds in New York State must register by calling 1-888-426-3778. Hunters will be asked for information about themselves and the birds that they plan on hunting. A confirmation number will be given and must be written on the back of the hunting license. This serves as proof of HIP registration and failure to carry this proof afield is a violation equal to hunting without a license.
Senior stamps. Seniors 65 and older become eligible for a reduced license fee of $5.00. All other privileges (bowhunting/muzzleloading/trapping) cost full price. At age 70, with purchase of senior stamp, these privileges are free, but still require proof of training. The DEC is also offering a senior lifetime fishing license at a reduced cost of $50.00.
Junior Hunting Licenses. Minors 12-15 who possess a hunter education certificate or a previous small game license may hunt small game only, with adult supervision, for a fee of $5.00. Junior hunting licenses must be purchased in person by the applicant, who must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A birth certificate must be presented for first time applicants. 11 year olds may now enroll in a hunter education course and earn a certificate, but must be at least 12 years old to purchase the Junior Hunting License.
Fishing license. A fishing license for the season is $19.00. The three-day fishing license has been eliminated, with the DEC now offering either a one-day fishing license at $15.00, or a seven-day fishing license at $12.00.
Turkey Permits. Fee is $5.00 for residents and requires a hunting license.
