Agenda

1) Welcome

2) Approval of Meeting Minutes from March 18, 2024, meeting.

3) Issues of the Public

a. Scarlett Hanley - Community Gardens proposal.

4) Correspondence

5) WSEC Planning - The commission meeting scheduled on May 13, 2024 is set aside for the commission to continue work on the WSEC planning document. No other agenda items will be

included.

6) Ongoing Commission Projects

a. Bikes

1. Letter from West Seneca Bikes forwarded to the Town Board in March 2023. Review emails provided by Scott Robertson. No. 1, No. 2

b. Trees

1. The Town was awarded the DEC Grant for Tree Inventory, and Urban Forestry Management Plan in December 2023. Any progress on implementation with the NYS DEC? - Scott Robertson

2. Status of recommendations to the town board for updating the approved replacement tree list. - Was on the agenda for March 25thTtown Board meeting. 

c. Education

1. WSEC members participation in the Town’s March 26 th Composting event at the West Seneca Senior Center. Thank you to Barb Lipiew, and Leane Schultz.

a) A question came up during the discussion on revising the approved tree list about trees to be planted by residents in their backyards. Use same list?

b) What to do about Japanese Knot Weed?

2. WSEC members participation in the Town’s April 22 (Earth Day) Composting Program Event.

d. Waterways

1. From the October 2023 Meeting minutes, were the 200 storm drain medallions ordered? - Status?

2. From October 2023 meeting minutes: Ms. Hicks stated she will follow up with the Burchfield Nature and Art Center regarding the erosion they reported at this location and noted Erie County Soil  and Water was addressing the concern.

3. Evelyn Hicks - National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant for implementation of flood control methods along the Buffalo Creek. We are working on this project with Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper.

e. Community Needs and Interests, etc.

7) Governance

1. Discuss the number of openings for new members.

2. Need a volunteer for Vice Chair.

3. Evelyn Hicks - Per the by-laws, establish a treasurer/financial secretary for the commission.

4. Evelyn Hicks - Financial reports - note that in addition to our annual stipend from the Town, the Town is holding money on our behalf for specific projects that have not yet been completed.

8) New Business

a. Discuss the use of the Environmental Corner on the town’s website.
