Fire and Smoke Wall Labeling
INTENT:
The Town of West Seneca is now requiring all Fire and Smoke walls installed in any commerical or multi unit buildings, per the 2015 IBC, to be labeled as such via method listed below:
- Provide a layer of safety over the life of wall when any alterations take place
- Fast, economical method of labeling
- Pre made templates
- New owners or tenants will be aware of such walls
CODE SECTION:
2015 IBC - Section 703.7
EFFECTIVE DATE:
As of January 1, 2017, the labeling of such walls will be required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- All new fire or smoke walls will be required to have labeling
- When renovations take place and existing walls are exposed, new penetrations are made or wall is altered in any way, it will be required to be labeled
- Labeling required on existing walls where work is being performed, at minimum
- All fire and smoke walls shall be installed as per their UL specifications
- The words 'FIRE AND SMOKE BARRIER-PROTECT ALL OPENINGS" shall be painted on such walls
- Red paint is required
- Stencil text with 3" high letters with 3/8" stroke width
- This shall be required 15'-0" on center max spacing along length of wall
- Labeling to be installed above ceiling between ceiling and roof structural members so it is easily visible
